When Dayana returns home from school one day and discovers her baby brother has finally arrived, she’s thrilled to meet her new dance partner! Dayana quickly realizes, however, that it’s going to be awhile before baby Dax can plié alongside her. Apparently new babies don’t even know how to stand! But with a little creativity—and some magical inspiration from their new friend, Kadeena the Dancing Dragon—Dayana and Dax develop a dance style all their own. With page-by-page guidance from Ballerina Konora, readers of all ages can learn to chassé like Dayana or goo-goo, ga-ga like Dax in this imaginative and fun tale about new siblings and dancing dragons!

“Whether read in its entirety or one piece at a time, this book is another delightful addition to the Once Upon a Dance canon. Readers familiar with the other books will happily add this one to their collection, as will new readers who enjoy the mystery and excitement of imagining dragons, castles, and unicorns appearing in an otherwise ordinary world.”

About the Authors

Once Upon a Dance is a collaboration between Ballerina Konora and her mother, Teacher Terrel, a former ballet and dance teacher. The two were happily immersed in the world of ballet until March 2020, when the pandemic inspired a jeté into children’s book publishing. Since that time, the mother-daughter duo has published nearly two dozen titles, including 13 Dance-It-Out! Creative Movement Stories. Their books have also received several notable awards, including First Place in the 2021 PenCraft Awards, the 2021 Mom’s Choice Gold Award, and the 2021 International Impact Book Award. In recognition of the challenges the pandemic has created, all proceeds are donated to animal, arts, and environmental charities.
