Two books published by Five Star
Publications receive national recognition

CHANDLER, AZ-Gunsmoke: An American Institution, written by broadcast entertainment historian Ben Costello, was named a winner in the "Best Books 2006" in the "Film/Television/Radio" category in the national book awards competition sponsored by USABookNews.com. The book was published by Five Star Publications of Chandler. A second book published by the firm- A Feather in the Rain by noted western actor Alex Cord-was named a finalist in the competition's "Fiction & Literature: Western" category. The winners were recently announced.

"We were honored first to be chosen by the authors to publish these two wonderful books," said Linda F. Radke, president of Five Star Publications, "and now these awards are yet another huge honor."

Gunsmoke: An American Institution chronicles the 20-year history of this television classic. The show first aired in September 1955 and continued for more than 600 episodes. In the book, Costello includes performer biographies, hundreds of photographs, episode logs, updates on surviving cast members, and interviews with the show's actors.

A Feather in the Rain is the second novel by Cord who starred in more than 30 feature films, including Stagecoach with Bing Crosby and Ann-Margret. In this book, Cord writes how the main character's passion for life was extinguished the day his son died, something based on a tragic incident from the author's own life.

Radke added, "Both of these authors did such a wonderful job of creating their stories. I am so happy for both of them." Five Star Publications, which Radke founded in 1985, has helped thousands of authors bring their books to the market.

USABookNews.com is the premiere online magazine and review website for mainstream and independent publishing houses. Jeff Bowen, the website's president, said the contest, now in its fourth year, attracted a wide variety of books from publishers throughout the United States.
