WITTY CHILDREN'S BOOK WINS ONEBOOKAZ FOR KIDS
CHANDLER, AZ - (December, 2011) - Arizona librarians, teachers, school administrators, students, and countless others voted for Arizona Way Out West & Witty: Library Edition, earning it the prestigious title of ONEBOOKAZ for Kids as declared by Secretary of State Ken Bennett. Beginning in March 2012, the program will encourage children in communities across the state to read Arizona Way Out West & Witty and participate in discussions and programs centered on the book.
Written by multi award-winning authors Lynda Exley and Conrad J. Storad, Arizona Way Out West & Witty: Library Edition is a humorous children's history and activity book designed to make learning enjoyable for grade-schoolers. The book delivers Arizona history with a side of fun by including gross, interesting and wacky stories and facts about the state, as well as crossword puzzles, games, recipes, crafts and other amusements. Ideal for teachers and homeschoolers, Arizona Way Out West & Witty: Library Edition also has a curriculum guide at the back of the book. In addition, schools and libraries that order a minimum of 30 copies receive a "Copies for Life" certificate of permission that allows them to copy pages from the book for official school use. Personal use and sharing copied material is prohibited.
"We thank all the thoughtful children and adults who believed in Arizona Way Out West & Witty and took the time to vote for it," say the book's authors and publisher, Linda Radke of Five Star Publications, Inc., in a joint statement. "Children had to pull themselves away from their video games and adults had to squeeze time into their busy schedules to cast their votes. That shows they care very much about what children living in Arizona read."
Arizona Way Out West and Witty: Library Edition, an Official Arizona Centennial Legacy Project that retails for $11.95 (978-1-58985-092-7), is distributed by Ingram, Baker & Taylor, Pacific Four Sales and available at Amazon.com, BarnesAndNoble.com and bookstores across the state. Additional information about the book, its authors and its sister publication, Arizona Way Out West & Wacky, is posted at www.AZWOWW.com. To book the authors and Johnny "JR" Ringo, the State Mammal Mascot, for a school visit or other event, contact Five Star Publications at 480-940-8182 or info@FiveStarPublications.com.
A second Five Star Publications' Centennial Legacy Project book, Addie Slaughter: The Girl Who Met Geronimo, was one of four finalists for ONEBOOKAZ for Kids as well. In first person, the true story recounts the life of famous Sheriff John Slaughter's young daughter, Addie, who bravely travels from Texas to the Arizona-Mexico border, settling on the late-1800s Slaughter Ranch. Along the way, her mother dies; she narrowly escapes a stagecoach robbery and murder; an earthquake destroys the ranch; her father's earlobe is shot off; and she meets Geronimo.
